As the 1999 Season comes to a close...

The last few days of camp are always emotional. Everyone is busy fitting in their last time to ski, swim the lake, getting autographs on pillow cases and many other final touches to close out the season. On Monday, August 9th the camp witnessed one of the most memorable ceremonies of the year... “The Fiver Year Candlelight Ceremony”. It is on this night that the camp recognizes all of the campers and counselors who have been here for 5 years. It’s a beautiful sight to see! After the ceremony, those campers and counselors who have been here for 5 years or more go to Denoyers Supper Club to celebrate. They gather there to eat lots of pizza, baskets of various appetizers and drink enough pop to float a boat. Everyone had a great time reminiscing all of the years that they have spent on the shores of Meta Lake!

Wednesday was spent packing and laughing as everyone prepared for the evenings Final Banquet. The Final Banquet is one of the most exciting nights of the year. The Mess Hall is set with bright red tableclothes, candles adorning each table. The dinner was a delicious Chicken breast with a tomato-dijon butter, tossed Salad, fruit cups and the desert was various flavors of Cheese cake. It is here that campers receive awards from the directors of various activities. The Red and White team captains give speeches and the event finishes with the presentation of “The Plaque” to the winning team. This year the winning team was the White team.

Thursday the campers were awakened by music and the final packing and cleaning was completed before they loaded the coaches for the ride home. The lunch prior to departure was a cheery and exciting meal. Campers did not want to leave and disguised their tears with loud cheering and singing started by the girls of the 1999 Senior Cabin. They loaded the coaches quickly due to the rain outside. As the buses pulled away, happy tears flowed from everyone’s cheeks. On the Pioneer bus, the crying lasted for the first hour of the ride home. Everyone arrived safely at Northbrook Court Shopping Center...and said their final goodbyes till we meet again on Meta’s Shore in the year 2000.
