Fun on the 4th!

It’s so nice to have good weather on the 4th of July. We had Perfect Weather... unless of course you aren’t fond of heat... it was definitely a burner! Terry reminded us all to wear our sunscreen. We had the traditional Mari-Meta League event of the year... “Message to Martha”! To many it is their favorite event of camp... but of course..everyday at Marimeta is an event of it’s own!
The object of this game is to get to “Martha” as many points as possible. Each team has a 20 minute period that they are on “offense”. Each camper has a point value from 1-10. They must get their points from one side of camp to the other (within the marked boundaries) without someone from the other side stopping them. The defensive team all are equipped with Mustard and Ketchup bottles filled with green colored water. They can stop the offense by squirting them with the colored liquid. Each team has a plan as how they will sneak across their points... the entire camp is the boundaries...and each team has two boats (their navy) so that they can get their points across by “sea”! It’s an amazing event with lot’s of different strategies. Campers plan this out throughout the year for this single exciting event!

Water Balloon Duels!

After “Message to Martha”, comes the ever popular “Captains Duels”. This puts each age division captain against each other in water balloon fights. The entire camp surrounds a rectangular area marked off in the middle of the athletic field. The captains are each given two balloons and several others are on the perimeter of the playing field. The object is to “soak your opponent”. At the end of each duel, the captain with the driest clothes wins! This year was a tie...3-3 and after the campers were done competing... our senior cabin led the entire camp in a “rattlesnake” line which went thru each cabin...picking up each camper and they led them to the waterfront. The counselors had previously been placed along each pier with the head lifeguards in their main chairs. The rattlesnake weaved around the camp and directly into the “well guarded waters” of Meta Lake to cool off from a fun day of Mari-Meta Water fights. Using biodegradable shampoo, many chose to stay and bathe in the water...as others took their turns in the bathhouse to get ready for the Evening event ahead.

The evening event began with a spectacular and delicious barbeque here at camp. The campers then boarded the awaiting buses and drove on to Camp Menominee for a staff softball game and evening dance with the music and dancing being provided by A-Z Entertainment. A great evening of food, song and dance followed by a magnificent fireworks display! Oh, although winning isn’t everything... Our Marimeta staff played two softball games against their “male” counterparts at Menominee. Fun was had by all...oh, did I neglect to mention...THE MARIMETA STAFF WON BOTH GAMES!!!!!
